Authenticating to GFI OneConnect

The authentication method defines the method that will enable your organization users and administrators to login to GFI OneConnect.

GFI OneConnect offers two methods of authentication. It is recommended to evaluate the best authentication mechanism for your organization and then decide on the preferred method.

The email address (username) and the set password is used to authenticate for all GFI OneConnect features, including logging in to the web interface, accessing WebMailA web-based email client provided by GFI OneConnect that is available when your organization's primary email infrastructure is unavailable. during an email outageRefers to a situation when the email server is down or offline. and accessing the security quarantineA email database where emails detected as spam and/or malware are stored in a controlled enviornment. Quarantined emails are not a threat to the network.

Authentication method Description
Windows Authentication (default)

This authentication method allows your users to log into GFI OneConnect using their existing Windows passwords, as configured in your Active DirectoryA technology that provides a variety of network services, including LDAP-like directory services. forest.

Although this is the easier authentication mechanism for end users as they do not need to manually set or remember a different password it requires the installation of multiple Authentication Manager components in your environment that facilitate verification of credentials with Active Directory. If no Authentication Manager is available, your users will not be able to log in to GFI OneConnect.

Custom AuthenticationOne of the authentication methods allowed by GFI OneConnect. When this method is used client will receive an email with the URL to log in, their username and temporary password. The user must change their password at the first login.

An alternative login system dedicated to GFI OneConnect. This provides a password management system where a password policy can be implemented together with the facilities to reset and manage passwords.

This method requires your users to login to GFI OneConnect to set a custom password which they can use exclusively for GFI OneConnect.
