Installing the File Archive Assistant via GPO - Windows Server 2008 or later
Group Policy software installation is a method that enables you to install applications automatically across your entire network.
NOTE
This method of installation is available to network administrators only.
Prepare the software to install
1. Download one of the following File Archive Assistant MSI packages from http://go.gfi.com/?pageid=MAR_DownloadMSI11.0:
MAR_FileArchiveAssistant_32bit.msi(Installer for Microsoft Windows 32-bit computers only)MAR_FileArchiveAssistant_64bit.msi(Installer for Microsoft Windows 64-bit computers only)
NOTE
Make sure that when deploying the 32-bit version of the File Archive Assistant, the domain policy used contains only computers running Microsoft Windows 32-bit version.
Similarly, ensure that when deploying File Archive Assistant 64-bit edition, the domain policy used contains only computers running Microsoft Windows 64-bit version.
2. Save the downloaded file to a shared folder on your network, accessible by all domains.
3. Locate the downloaded file. Take note of the folder path for later use.
4. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Group Policy Management.
5. Expand Forest > Domains > domain name. Right-click the domain name and select Create a GPOGroup Policy Objects in this domain, and Link it here...
6. Enter a name for the new Group Policy Object (GPO). For example: File Archive Assistant. Click OK.
7. Right-click the newly created Linked GPO and click Edit.
8. In the Group Policy Management Editor window, expand User Configuration > Policies > Software settings > Software Installation. Right click Software Installation > New > Package to configure the GPO to install on log in.
9. Enter the network path of the shared folder that contains the File Archive Assistant MSI package. Click OK.
NOTE
When selecting the location of the msi file ensure that this is done through ‘My network locations’ so that the share name in GFI Archiver includes the full network share location rather than the local path.
10. In the Deploy Software pop-up, select Assigned and click OK.
11. The new package is now added under Software Installation.
Configure the ADM file
Use an Administrative Template file (ADMADM files are template files used by Group Policies to describe where policy settings are stored in the registry. ADM files also describe the user interface that administrators see in the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in.) to set up and manage the required registry settings for the GFI Archiver Addon to communicate with GFI Archiver server.
To add an ADM template:
1. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Group Policy Management.
2. Expand Forest > Domains > domain name. Right-click File Archive Assistant and select Edit
3. In the Group Policy Management Editor window, expand User Configuration > Policies > Software settings > Software Installation.
4. Double-click the package to open the properties window.
5. In the Deployment tab, select Install this application at logon.
6. Click Apply and OK to close the window.
7. In the Group Policy Management window expand Forest > Domains > domain name > File Archive Assistant
8. In the Security Filtering Pane, click Add.
9. In Select User, Computer or Group add Domain Users and click OK.
10. In Group Policy Management, expand Forest > Domains > Group Policy ObjectsAn Active Directory centralized management and configuration system that controls what users can and cannot do on a computer network.. Right click File Archive Assistant and click Edit.
11. In the Group Policy Management Editor, expand File Archive Assistant > User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates.
12. Right-click Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Templates.
13. Click Add. Open the GFI Archiver installation folder (default path C:\Program Files\GFI\Archiver) and open the Client Tools folder.
14. Locate gfiapps.adm and click Open to add the template. Click Close.
Configure the GFI Archiver server location
1. In the Group Policy Management Editor, expand File Archive Assistant > User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > GFI Applications.
2. Double click GFI Archiver Server Location.
3. Select the Enabled radio-button.
4. In the Server URL field, type the GFI Archiver URL (for example: https://192.168.7.125/Archiver. Click Apply and OK to close the window.
5. The set up should now be complete. File Archive Assistant will be installed the Next time each client machine is started.
