Using the GFI Archiver DB Split Tool

Use the GFI Archiver DB Split Tool to split a GFI Archiver database into multiple smaller databases defined by specific date range.

System Requirements

To use the tool:

1. Download the tool from: http://go.gfi.com/?pageid=mar_othertools

2. Click on the executable file to open the tool.

3. In the configuration tab, configure the following options:

Option Description
SQL Server Select the Microsoft SQL server where the GFI Archiver database is located.
Database Select the database to split into smaller databases. When using Microsoft SQL Server the new databases are created in the same location. If using Microsoft SQL Server with File System, specify the source and destination paths in the available fields.
Path to FS If you are using Microsoft SQL Server with File System, key in the path of the binary sources files. This option is not available when using Microsoft SQL Server without file system.
Binary Destination If you are using Microsoft SQL Server with File System, key in the destination path of the binary destination folder. This option is not available when using Microsoft SQL Server without file system.
Split by:

Select one of the following options:

  • Monthly
  • Bi-monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Half Yearly
  • Yearly

IMPORTANT

Ensure that GFI Archiver is not connected to the database during the operation. It is also recommended to close all database tools and applications using the database during the process. For more information refer to Detaching an Existing Archive Store.

4. Click Start.

5. The tool automatically switches to the Detailed progress tab to provide status information on the new databases being created.
