File Archive Assistant
The File Archive Assistant enables users to sync files between their computer and GFI Archiver. All files archived by File Archive Assistant are accessible via the GFI Archiver Web Interface and GFI Archiver Touch App for Windows 8 and Windows RT.
The File Archive Assistant can be used in 2 ways:
Use | Description |

Archive files manually from any location on your computer |
When the File Archive Assistant is installed on your computer, a new context menu item for manual archiving is added to the default Windows context menu. To archive selected folders or files, right-click on any folder, file, selection of folders or a selection of files and click Archive files. |
Use a Synchronized Folder to automatically archive files | File Archive Assistant offers the ability to create synchronized folders. Any file saved in these folders is automatically uploaded to GFI Archiver. |
The File Archive Assistant can be installed manually or via Active DirectoryA technology that provides a variety of network services, including LDAP-like directory services.® Group Policy ObjectsAn Active Directory centralized management and configuration system that controls what users can and cannot do on a computer network. (GPOGroup Policy Objects).
Notes for the administrator to consider before installing the File Archive Assistant:
- To use File Archive Assistant, the GFI Archiver administrator must configure roles and permissions for file archiving. For more information refer to Configuring Roles and Permissions for file archiving.
- Items archived through the File Archive Assistant get archived irrespective of any rules set in Rules-based Archiving.
- Configure the default File Archive Assistant settings to enable clients on your network to inherit the configuration settings from the server. For more information refer to Configuring default File Archive Assistant settings.
